NORTHFIELD - Atlantic County government honored a Brigantine resident Tuesday for his outstanding service to the community.
The Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Joseph Mandes, a New Jersey distinguished finalist in the 17th Annual Prudential Spirit Community Awards that honors top youth volunteers in the nation. Mandes founded the Kids for South Jersey Cancer Fund when he was just 13-years-old.
"I feel really excited and honored that I'm receiving an award like this. It's something out of the ordinary for me," said Mandes.
The organization has raised more than $40,000 in four years and has 75 volunteers.
