FBI - CRISIS NEGOTIATION

This five day course is designed to familiarize officers with the current doctrine and theory of successful negotiations with individuals who are suicidal or in crisis, as well as criminal, mentally deranged and fanatic hostage takers. Instruction stresses the goal of approach in dealing with the hostage taker. Through the use of practical problems, all officers are exposed to negotiations situations during the course. Attendees should be patrol officers or detectives who will act as negotiators during actual crisis situations. Selection should be based on the department's ability to identify personnel who are enthusiastic and highly motivated to become negotiators. Class size is limited to 24. Burlington, Monmouth and Atlantic Counties get preference.
