Alternate Route Program
The Atlantic County Police Training Center will be running the Alternate Route Training Program for our next Basic Course for Police Officers (Police Academy) Class #14. The program permits individuals to enroll in a Basic Police Training Course without first being hired by a Police Agency. Graduates will qualify for a State of New Jersey Police Training Commission Certification. Applicants must meet the following minimum standards to be accepted into the program. - Be a citizen of United States. - Able to read, write and speak the English language - Be between the ages of 18 and 35. - Have at least 60 college credits prior to the start of the written exam or 2 years of full time active duty military service; or a combination of college credits and full time active duty military service that adds up to two years. - Pass a rigorous selection process; including a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, application packet evaluation, psychological evaluation, medical exam, and a preliminary background investigation. - Have a valid NJ Drivers License. - Pass a Drug Test through Urinalysis. - Have current insurance (Health / Liability) The Alternate Route Program is twenty-three (23) weeks in length and will require the candidate to attend classes Monday thru Friday for the entire length of the program. The next class is scheduled to begin on March 25, 2013 and run thru August 29, 2013. The Alternate Route Program candidate will be responsible for all costs associated with the application process and academy training. This cost is estimated at approximately $4000.00. This includes $1000.00 in tuition along with $250.00 for ammunition which is paid to the training center. The test for Alternate Route Training Program space is limited to the first 100 Applicants. Applications must be picked up in person at the Atlantic County Police Training Center, 5033 English Creek Ave., Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 12:00PM. A $50.00 fee must be paid when the application is picked up. The fee must be a money order made out to “Treasure, County of Atlantic” The application must be completed in full and returned at the time and place of the written examination. The next written examination is scheduled for January 3, 2013 @ 6:00PM at the Police Training Center. If you are successful in completing the first two phases of testing (written & physical), you will be scheduled for an oral interview. A list of successful candidates with then be drawn up in order of your score in the testing procedures. Background investigations will be done on the top percentage of the list. A final list will be made after the background investigations completed. Notification of pending acceptance to the police academy will be mailed out once the results of the medical and psychological examinations are received. Failure to complete any portion of the testing procedures on time, will result in your removal from the process. The goals of the Atlantic County Police Training Center are to provide quality training programs focusing on the essential skills necessary to serve effectively as law enforcement professionals. We recognize the fact that training is a key component in developing a professional law enforcement community and are committed towards that end. To attain that goal, we shall continue to offer a wide variety of credible and up to date programs. These courses are designed to enhance the abilities of the individual officer as well as promote team building skills. They are selected and developed with a focus on officer survival and building a strong police-community partnership.
