| 9-1-1 COORDINATOR'S OFFICE |
The Atlantic County 9-1-1 Coordinator's Office is located
at the Anthony "Tony" Canale Training Center and can be reached
by dialing 609-272-9495.
In an emergency, DIAL 9-1-1.
9-1-1 is the universal emergency telephone
number that you can dial 24 hours a day for police, fire or emergency
medical service. When you dial 9-1-1 your call is routed over special
telephone lines to a 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) where
trained emergency response personnel will determine the type of emergency
service needed. Your town determines which PSAP will handle your
call.
The address you have given New Jersey Bell
when you ordered your telephone service is the address that is
used by the 9-1-1 system. The telephone company must have the correct
name of the town in which you live and to which you pay taxes in
order for 9-1-1 to work quickly and accurately for you.
Dial 9-1-1 immediately when life or property
is in imminent danger. Don't wait for someone else to make the call.
9-1-1 is a free call and can be dialed from
any home, coin or cellular car phone. In some locations, such as
office buildings, it may be necessary to dial an access number (usually
the digit 9) to get an outside line before you can dial 9-1-1.
9-1-1 calls are answered by trained 9-1-1
telecommunicators. 9-1-1 telecommunicators will ask questions in
order to determine the appropriate agencies needed to respond to
the emergency. You can help by remaining calm and speaking clearly.
Provide the telecommunicator with the following information:
- Exactly what the problem is.
- Where the problem is.
- The phone number you are calling from.
- Your name and address, if requested.
Stay on the telephone. Answer the telecommunicator's
questions and follow any instructions you may be given.
