Statewide Respite Care Program (SWR)

The Statewide Respite Care Program (SWR) is designed to provide assistance to families by giving caregivers a break from the daily responsibility of caring for an elderly or disabled relative or friend.

Services Available:

Respite services may be used so that caregivers can shop, get medical care, attend to personal matters, rest, vacation or cope with an emergency. Services avalable are: homemaker, home health aide, caregiver directed respite program, social or adult health services and in-patient care in a licensed medical facility.

You may be eligible for SWR if you are:

  • A New Jersey resident;
  • be age 18 or older
  • have income at or below $1809.00 per month ($3,618.00 for couples)
  • have liquid resources of less that $40,000.00 ($60,000.00 for couples)
  • have a chronic physical or mental disability which would require supervision or assistance with basic daily needs from a caregiver

Paying for Services

Depending on income, individual may be responsible for a cost share.
