“Along the Great Egg Harbor River” is a comprehensive standards-based curriculum unit for elementary and middle school students designed to offer hands-on learning in math, science, social studies and language arts.
The curriculum was developed by the Atlantic County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs in partnership with the Atlantic Heritage Center through generous funding from the New Jersey Historical Commission/Department of State. This funding enabled the services of a public history education consultant, Patricia McDermott.

Most of the primary source documents used in the curriculum are from the collections of the Atlantic Heritage Center and represent real people who lived and worked along the river. The curriculum offers students unique insights into life during the time period of 1775-1875 and hopefully it will also engender an appreciation of the river itself – a wonderful natural resource located in their own backyard.
