Licensing is important to control the spread of rabies and to ensure that persons who are bitten by a cat or dog can easily determine whether the animal has an up to date rabies vaccine. Fees generated from dog and cat licenses are contributed to the statewide Animal Population Control Program. The funds are used to assist eligible residents in obtaining low cost spay/neuter services. When you receive your new license, please attach it to your pet's collar. In the event that your pet becomes lost, the license number will allow your pet to be traced to you. Contact your municipality for more information about pet licensing in your area. For additional information about responsible pet ownership, contact the Atlantic County Animal Shelter at (609) 485-2345. The following municipalities require cats to be licensed.
