2010 YRBSS - Atlantic County Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Study

The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors priority health-risk behaviors and the
prevalence of obesity and asthma among youth and young adults.

During the 2009-2010 school year, the Division of Public Health renewed its partnership with school districts and other community organizations to conduct this Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Study to monitor these priority health-risk behaviors among Atlantic County youth.

How does this data impact our schools? The YRBSS findings highlight areas of risky behaviors by
teenagers that can be addressed through educational programs or by the involvement and engagement of
community partners to reinforce those educational programs offered by the schools.

This county-level aggregate data also can help our community partners by providing the most current data
on the health-risk behaviors of Atlantic County youth, assisting these organizations in providing programs
and opportunities for local teenagers, as well as providing needed data in their efforts to secure grants and
funding for local programming.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call Ben Mount, Partnership Coordinator and
leader of the YRBSS work group, at 609-645-7700 ext. 4259, or by email at mount_ben@aclink.org.
