Atlantic County Celebrates National County Government Month - April 2012

County Executive Dennis Levinson issued an executive proclamation today recognizing the month of April as Atlantic County Government Month. Since 1991 the National Association of Counties has designated one week a year to promote county government programs and services. In 2010 this observance was expanded to a full month. This year's national theme is "Healthy Counties, Healthy Families."

According to Levinson one of the best ways to become familiar with all that county government does is to visit its Web site at www.aclink.org where residents and visitors can also sign up to receive email notifications as new information is posted to the site or to follow the county on Twitter or through RSS feeds that provide real-time messages to Internet friendly devices.

"Keeping the public informed is one of our primary goals. Through the use of these newer technologies we are able to increase public access to county government and reach out to residents more quickly, which can be vital in an emergency," said Levinson. "Our Community Notification System is another example of the use of technology to send out emergency alerts without delay. Residents can register online at www.aclink.org and www.ReadyAtlantic.org, the county's emergency information and resource Web site."

Not only is County Government Month a great time to become more familiar with all that Atlantic County government provides to a growing population of approximately 275,000 residents and millions of visitors each year, but according to Levinson, it also provides an opportunity to acknowledge the dedicated employees who ARE Atlantic County government.

"Our employees are responsible for the day to day provision of more than 100 different programs and services that include healthcare, public safety, job training, recreation, senior services, road maintenance and infrastructure improvements, human services, social services, economic assistance and more."

"I encourage the public to get to know their county government and the people behind the scenes who contribute to its success. County Government Month is an opportune time to do so."
