Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program Pursuant to the County Environmental Health Act (CEHA), the Environmental Health Unit maintains a comprehensive Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program. GIS is utilized by the Unit to map, organize and maintain information such as groundwater contamination, rabies exposures, West Nile virus positive specimens, surface water quality, sites of potential groundwater impact, and retail food establishments. It has proven to be an invaluable tool for quickly retrieving data and identifying potential environmental health trends and concerns. Additionally, GIS serves as an educational tool allowing the public to visualize how various health issues can affect the areas in which they live.
