Egg Harbor & Hamilton Townships Completed

Lane shifts and/or reductions will be in effect (weather permitting) on Wednesday, October 5 from 7 AM to 5 PM on Ocean Heights Avenue from Somers Point-Mays Landing Road to Mill Road as part of an ongoing road project. Beginning Thursday, October 6 through Wednesday, October 12, a detour will be in effect 7 AM to 5 PM. Northbound traffic will be diverted onto eastbound English Creek Avenue (Rt. 575) to the Black Horse Pike (Rt. 40/322). Southbound traffic on Ocean Heights Avenue will not be affected.

Beginning Monday, April 10 through Thursday, April 14, Mill Road (Route 662) in Egg Harbor Township will be closed to through traffic, between Ridge Avenue and Spruce Avenue, from 9 AM to 3:30 PM for a utility installation for a private development project. Local residents/homeowners will have travel access. Police will be onsite to assist motorists. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour or find an alternate route. Delays are expected.

Egg Harbor Township Completed

As part of an ongoing road resurfacing project conducted by the Atlantic County Improvement Authority, a detour will be in effect on Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28 (weather permitting) on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road (Rt. 559) in Egg Harbor Township between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM. The detour will be in effect via English Creek Road (Rt. 575) and Zion Road (Rt. 615). Police will be on site. Delays are expected. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route. Beginning Monday, September 19, the Atlantic County Improvement Authority will be conducting a road project on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road (Rt. 559) in Egg Harbor Township from the Jobs Point Bridge to the junction of Zion Road. Work will continue for approximately three weeks, Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM. Lane shifts and/or reductions will be in effect. Police will be onsite. The Egg Harbor Township Municipal Utility Authority is scheduled to perform an emergency sewer repair on Ocean Heights Avenue (Rt. 559) in Egg Harbor Township on Thursday, August 18. Atlantic County has been notified by the Egg Harbor Township Municipal Utilities Authority that Mill Road in Egg Harbor Township, east of Ocean Heights Avenue, will have lane shifts beginning March 23 and continuing through March 31, 7:30 AM to 4 PM, due to an ongoing private development and drainage system installation. Both lanes of traffic will remain open, however, possible minimal delays may be expected. Beginning Tuesday, March 21 through Friday, March 24, Mill Road (Route 662) in Egg Harbor Township will be closed to through traffic, between Ocean Heights Avenue and Fire Road, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM for a utility installation for a private development project. Beginning at 6 AM on Thursday, April 13, alternating lanes of traffic will be in effect on Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township, between the Black Horse Pike and Washington Avenue, for up to 12 hours, to allow for additional paving as part of the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s railroad crossing rehabilitation project.

The Jobs Point Bridge over Patcong Creek on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road (Rt. 559), at the border of Egg Harbor Township and Somers Point, is scheduled to reopen to traffic on Tuesday, May 16 following the completion of a bridge stablization project. The bridge is located less than one mile west of the intersection of Route 9 and Rt. 559 in Somers Point.

Beginning Tuesday, October 4, weather permitting, the Atlantic County Improvement Authority will be conducting a road resurfacing project on Moss Mill Road between Duerer Street and Cologne Avenue. A detour will be in effect through Thursday, October 6 from 7 AM to 5 PM. Traffic will be diverted to Duerer Street (Rt. 561) and Philadelphia Avenue (Rt. 563). School buses and local residential traffic will be directed through on Moss Mill Road by police officers.

River Road (Route 617) in Mays Landing will be closed to traffic from Routes 40/ 50 to Route 559 (Somers Point-Mays Landing Road), between 6 PM on Monday, June 20 and 6 AM on Tuesday, June 21 due to work being conducted by the Atlantic County Improvement Authority. The work was originally scheduled to take place last week but was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Hamilton & Egg Harbor Townships Completed

South Jersey Gas Company is scheduled to install a new gas main on Ocean Heights Avenue in Hamilton and Egg Harbor townships beginning Monday, August 8, 2005. Work will continue for approximately four weeks. During that time a road closure will be in effect on Ocean Heights Avenue between Somers Point-Mays Landing Road (Rt. 559) and English Creek Avenue. The road will be closed between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. Ocean Heights Avenue will reopen to traffic Monday through Thursday evenings and all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Approaching traffic from the west on River Road, Main Street and Route 40 in Mays Landing will be directed to Route 40 east as an alternate route. All trucks over 8 tons are to use Route 40 to the Black Horse Pike. Approaching traffic on Ocean Heights Avenue from the east will be detoured to English Creek Avenue to Route 40 west towards Mays Landing. Traffic signs and detour routes will be clearly marked. Police will be onsite to assist with traffic control. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route. Delays are expected.

Linwood & Egg Harbor Township Completed

Central Avenue in Linwood will remain closed to traffic and a detour will remain in effect through November 4, 2005 upon request by Agate Construction Company, Inc., the contractor for the Bargaintown Mill Pond Dam repair project. The extension was neccessitated by last week’s heavy rainfalls coupled with extreme tidal events that caused failures to the temporary water control system that was installed to de-water the work area. Once the site is de-watered, engineers will be better able to determine the best way to complete the repairs. Should additional work be required, the project could be further extended. The Bargaintown Dam Bridge between Linwood and Egg Harbor Townhip will be closed for improvements and repairs beginning September 19, 2005. It is expected to be closed to traffic for 30 days. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour or find an alternate route.

The emergency sanitary sewer repair on Shore Road in Northfield, between Zion Road and the intersection of Shore, Mill, and Tilton Roads, is expected to be completed and the road reopened as of 5 PM today, May 1. Due to an emergency sanitary sewer repair, Shore Road in Northfield, between Zion Road and the intersection of Shore, Mill, and Tilton Roads, will be closed to all traffic today, May 1, until further notice. Beginning Monday, September 25, the intersection of Mill Road and Zion Road in Northfield will be closed for approximately three weeks to allow the City of Northfield to make repairs to the city’s sewer system in coordination with county reconstruction improvements to Mill Road between Route 9 and Filmar Avenue. County Bridge PR-7, Old New York Avenue over Nacote Creek in Port Republic, has been closed for emergency repairs due to structural damage that, according to engineers, may be the result of a prior motor vehicle accident. Beginning Thursday, October 12, contractors will perform final paving of Somers Point-Mays Landing Road (Rt. 559) in Somers Point, between Route 9 and Woodland Avenue, as part of the county’s $2 million road improvement project that involved raising the height of a .67 mile portion of Rt. 559 to provide relief from frequent flooding and to improve its capability as a secondary emergency evacuation route from Somers Point and Ocean City. Somers Point-Mays Landing Road provides direct access to both Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway. Contractor A.E. Stone, Inc. has issued the following construction schedule for October 12 through October 19. Thursday, October 12 Somers Point-Mays Landing Road will be closed between Route 9 and the Marriott Residence Inn, 6:30 AM - 4:30 PM. All entry / exiting will be from the Route 52, Somers Point circle. Monday, October 16 and Wednesday, October 18 Somers Point-Mays Landing Road will be closed to ALL westbound through traffic between Wood- land Avenue and Route 9. Eastbound traffic will not be affected. Tuesday, October 17 and Thursday, October 19 Somers Point-Mays Landing Road will be closed to ALL eastbound through traffic from Route 9 to Woodland Avenue. Westbound traffic will not be affected. Weather permitting, final paving is expected to be completed by Friday, October 20 with no further road closures required.

Ventnor Completed

The Dorset Avenue Bridge in Ventnor will reopen to vehicular traffic at 4 PM today (10/14/05) without any weight restrictions. The bridge had been closed to traffic since September 26 for repairs due to its deteriorated steel grid deck system. Motorists may experience lane shifts as work continues over the next few days. The Dorset Avenue Bridge in Ventnor will be closed to vehicular traffic for repairs beginning Monday, September 26, 2005 at 7:00 AM. A detour will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the construction project which is expected to last through October 14, 2005. Construction crews will be working to replace the bridge’s deteriorated steel grid deck system from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, seven days a week. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route or plan an alternate route. The detour route includes Ventnor Avenue, Albany Avenue (U.S. Route 322/40) across Albany Avenue Bridge, and West End/Wellington Avenue. The bridge will be open to pedestrians, Ventnor emergency response vehicles on emergency calls, and marine vessels with restrictions. Pedestrians are advised to follow signage to the appropriate sidewalk. Pedestrians may experience some minor delays while construction crews are operating overhead equipment in the vicinity of the sidewalk. Marine traffic will be limited to single leaf openings in accordance with the regular bridge operation schedule between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM for the duration of the construction work. Vessels that require a double leaf opening between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM must provide a two (2) hour advance notification to the bridge operator on duty. There will be no restrictions to the bridge operation schedule for marine vessels between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
