You can use the free downloadable Arc Explorer software to create
maps and print maps. You can also use Arc Explorer to explore the
data found on the Atlantic County IMS Site as well as other IMS
sites found on the geography network.
When you finish downloading the program you can open ArcExplorer
and you will see the following screen. You will notice that you have
many of the same tools as in the IMS viewer, but many of them are
grayed out.
The major difference between ArcIMS and Arc Explorer is that you
can save your static maps and work with the data that you have down
loaded from the IMS site. Obviously some of the tools are different
for this reason as well.
You will notice that there is a menu bar above the toolbar. This
menu bar has a variety of options for you to use in your endeavors.
The menu bar gives you many options for working with
and exploring the data you have downloaded from the ArcIMS site.
These
tools give you even more options when working with your data.
This
tool opens a project that you have saved.
This
tool saves the project.
This
is the copy map to image file tool. You can make the map that you
created into an image file format such as jpeg.
This
tool allows you to close the project.
This
tool allows you to add data to your project.
This
tool connects you to the geography network.
This
tool allows you to print the map you created.
Pan one Direction Tool. With this tool you get a
pull down list to help you pan once in any direction.
