Querying the Active Data Set

When you wish to query the information there are a few steps you need to take. First you need to make the data set you wish to query active. Sometimes you will also need to zoom into the area you wish to query as well for the query tool to work. Next you need to click on the query tool. The query tool window will be at the bottom of your browser.

Step 1: In the part of the query window under field, use the pull down list to select the field you wish to query. Keep in mind that the field that you are looking for will be the last word in the string. For example, in the tax parcel map the field for block would be called ATLANTIC_GEO.ATLANTIC_GEO.TAX_PARCELS.BLOCK.

Step 2: Use the drop down list to select your operator such as =, <, >, <>, etc.

Step 3: Either type your value or click the get samples button to select the value you wish to find in the data. If you do not know the format of the data you wish to find you should use the get samples button so that you can see the format of the data. In the list that results from getting samples you may or may not find the sample you want to find in the data. If you do not find the exact sample you are looking for you can type in the data once you add the phrase to the query string.

Step 4: Once you get the FIELD, OPERATOR, and VALUE, you can click the button.

Step 5: Click the button to execute the query.

The results will appear in tabular form below the view frame and the resulting polygons will be highlighted in the view frame.

You can make your query a Boolean query or make it a more complex query by adding one of the buttons and, or, not, you can also use the open and close parenthesis in your query. When you use the Boolean functions or the parenthesis they are automatically added to the query string, there is no need to click the “Add to Query String Button”.

If you do use the Boolean Functions remember that makes it a two part query so you need to repeat steps 1 through 4 in query making.
