Atlantic County Receives 6th Consecutive Clean Audit

County Executive Dennis Levinson has announced that Atlantic County government has earned a clean audit with no findings or comments for the sixth consecutive year.

No irregularities were found during an annual review of the county's financial operations and procedures, conducted by the certified public accounting firm of Hutchins, Farrell, Meyer & Allison, P.A., the independent auditors for Atlantic County government. The audit included an examination of internal controls and areas that have the potential for abuse and misuse of public funds.

"The fact that Atlantic County continues to receive audit reports with no findings is a strong indication of the integrity and dedication of our financial staff and the value of financial controls," stated Levinson. "Atlantic County residents can be proud of this significant record of accountability."

In a transmittal letter to the county executive, Eugene Farrell, a principal in the accounting firm, noted the county's strong fiscal vitality and low debt. "These conditions can be directly attributed to the county's administration and the progressive approach taken to management techniques," he said.

Farrell concluded by stating, "Fortunately for the residents of Atlantic County, the overall focus is on how to best spend our tax dollars, not on how to finance our spending habits."

A synopsis and summary of the audit was published in The Press of Atlantic City on July 20. The Board of Chosen Freeholders is expected to review and certify the audit at its regular meeting on July 26 in accordance with the requirements of the Local Finance Board.
