Levinson Nominates DelRosso to Replace Walsh as County Administrator

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson has nominated Deputy County Administrator Gerald DelRosso of Northfield to the position of County Administrator to replace Helen W. Walsh who retired in December after having served in the position for the past 15 years. The county administrator is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of county government that includes seven departments and more than 1,700 employees.

DelRosso has served as the Deputy Administrator since 1995 during which time he oversaw the Division of Intergenerational Services, the Atlantic County Library System, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County and the Division of Facilities Management. DelRosso was also involved with capital development and served as the lead for several county initiatives, including the Children and Family Initiative, the Youth Services Commission and One EaseELink. In addition, he was the Atlantic County representative to the New Jersey Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties.

"I am pleased to nominate Jerry for this position," stated Levinson. "He has 35 years experience in a variety of positions throughout county government. Atlantic County is very fortunate to have someone of Jerry's ability and character."

DelRosso joined the county in 1969 as an employee of the Department of Social Services and steadily rose through the ranks to become the department head in 1991. In 1993 he took over the reigns of the Department of Human Services that included the county nursing home, the Division of Aging and Disabled and the Division of Public Health.

Former County Administrator Helen Walsh said her decision to retire was made easier by knowing that DelRosso would replace her. "Jerry is extremely knowledgeable and very dedicated. I don't believe Denny could have made a better choice."

"Having Jerry in this position ensures a smooth transition for our employees as well as the public," added Levinson. It is difficult to follow in Helen's foot steps, but I am confident that I have picked the most qualified person to do so."

DelRosso earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Villanova University in 1969 and a master's degree in social work administration from Rutgers University in 1972.

He is involved in several community groups and currently serves as the treasurer for the United Way of Atlantic County, the co-chairman of the Youth Services Commission, and an advisory board member for the Oceanside Charter School in Atlantic City. He also contributes his time to the One Stop Committee of the Atlantic Cape May Workforce Investment Board and the County Superintendent of School's Professional Development Board.

DelRosso's appointment requires the advice and consent of the Atlantic County Board of Freeholders.
