Levinson Appoints Silipena to SJTPO and SJEDD
|
County Executive Dennis Levinson has announced the appointment of Freeholder Chairman Joseph F. Silipena as the Atlantic County representative to the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) and the South Jersey Economic Development District (SJEDD). Silipena replaces former freeholder Kirk Conover who resigned from the board following his election to the state assembly last November.
"Joe's experience as a freeholder, mayor and councilman will serve him well in this capacity," stated Levinson. "I am certain he will be a valuable asset to both organizations and will ensure that Atlantic County is properly represented."
Silipena has served as an Atlantic County Freeholder for the past 10 years and is a former mayor and councilman of Egg Harbor City.
"Being in business for nearly 50 years, I recognize how transportation and economic development are two issues of great importance to Atlantic County. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the board of these two agencies and contribute to the betterment of our area," Silipena said
Silipena will serve on the 11-member policy board that governs the SJTPO which is responsible for maintaining an ongoing, cooperative and comprehensive transportation planning process.
He will also serve as one of five Atlantic County representatives to the SJEDD, a federally funded agency that was established in 1979 to promote economic development in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties. A major function of the SJEDD is to coordinate state and county development initiatives.
