County Moves Forward with Infrastructure Improvements
|
Contracts for the design of traffic signals and drainage improvements and the award of a bid contract for road construction proposed by the County Executive were recently approved by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
"The traffic signal design contracts for intersections in Egg Harbor Township are part of my ongoing commitment to address continuing traffic problems in the growth communities of EHT, Hamilton and Galloway," said Dennis Levinson County Executive. "Additionally, the award of a contract for the second phase of improvements to Pleasant Mills Road in Mullica Township addresses the need for upgrades to existing roadways."
A contract for the final design of a signalized intersection which will eliminate the Airport Circle was awarded to Dewberry-Goodkind, Inc. The anticipated construction cost for the new intersection including drainage improvements is $2.3 million.
Another design contract for improvements in Egg Harbor Township was awarded a time extension. The contract involves the signalization of the intersection at English Creek and Delilah Roads.
"The need for this improvement is particularly acute due to the major development plans of Atlantic Care," expalined Levinson. "The time extension was necessary to insure that the needs of the AtlantiCare development and safety of the traveling public are properly addressed," he added. Construction is anticipated during 2004.
A bid contract for $720,000 was awarded to Arawak Paving for the second phase of roadway reconstruction on Pleasant Mills Road in Mullica Township. The project limits for Phase II are from Airport Road (CR 693) to Columbia Rd. (CR 658). Phase I was completed in 2003 at a cost of approximately $1.2 million. Phase III, from Columbia Road (CR 658) to the county line, is anticipated in 2005.
"I am committed to infrastructure improvements in the growth communities, but I also have an obligation to the rest of the county. I believe these three projects are indicative of the balance that I seek to achieve," concluded Levinson.
