Levinson Nominates Maria Torres to ACCC Board of Trustees

Maria Torres of Mays Landing, an Oakcrest High School guidance counselor, has been nominated to a four year term on the Atlantic Cape Community College Board of Trustees by Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson.

Torres has been employed at Oakcrest High School for the past 23 years having served as a migrant tutor for three years prior to her current position as guidance counselor. She earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Inter American University in Puerto Rico. She has also earned master level credits at Temple University and Rutgers University.

"Maria is a highly energetic and enthusiastic individual whose background and experience ensure that she has a unique familiarity with the needs of local students," stated Levinson. "She is highly recommended by the Trustee Search Committee that I appointed. I look forward to working with her on matters of mutual interest."

In addition to her dedication to her profession, Torres contributes her time and talents to the Atlantic County Human Relations Advisory Council and the New Jersey Board of Higher Education. She has also served as a member of the Hispanic Alliance of Atlantic County and Oakcrest High School's Principal-Parent Advisory Committee and Human Relations Coalition.

Torres has been nominated to replace former county executive Richard Squires whose term expired November 1, 2003. Her appointment will require the advice and consent of the Board of Freeholders.
