Learning Center Opens in Hammonton
|
An adult workplace learning center has been added to the many resources available at the Hammonton One Stop Career Center located at 44 North White Horse Pike.
The purpose of the center is to help participants sustain the educational levels necessary to secure meaningful employment by increasing their reading, math, computer, and communication skills to enter the workplace or advance to further training by providing self-paced tutorials in Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development Test Preparation (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL) and Workplace Literacy classes.
"This center will be a great asset for the people of Atlantic County," says James Curcio, Atlantic County Freeholder. "It represents a continuation of the promise of Atlantic County Government to assist residents with literacy, basic skills and job training. I hope many people will enjoy and benefit from this facility.”
To supplement the self-paced academics offered at the One Stop Learning Center, instructors are on site to provide additional assistance both on an individual basis and in a cooperative learning environment.
“The aim of the program is to encourage time management skills, individual responsibility and team building,” states George Saunders, manager of the Hammonton One Stop Career Center. “By enhancing participant’s workplace literacy skills, we increase their chances for employment and career advancement.”
The center will operate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For additional information, call (609) 561-8800.
The Hammonton One Stop Career Center Learning Center is provided by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and funded locally through the Atlantic Cape May Workforce Investment Board.
