Levinson Nominates Sean Thomas for Justice Facility Post

County Correction Captain Sean M. Thomas, a resident of Hammonton, has been nominated by County Executive Dennis Levinson to the position of Division Director of Adult Detention to replace Warden Gary Merline who retired as of July 1, 2008.
Captain Thomas is a 24-year veteran of the Atlantic County Department of Public Safety who steadily rose through the ranks from correction officer to captain. Thomas attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master's degree in Administrative Science. Thomas is a 2000 graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program and a 2003 graduate of the New Jersey Police Executive Institute.
Levinson noted that while his preference is to promote from within the organization, several individuals were interviewed for the position and Thomas was selected as the most qualified candidate based upon his knowledge and experience.
"Sean is experienced at supervising officers and inmates as well as the overall day to day operations of the Atlantic County Justice Facility. I am confident in his abilities and his dedication to meeting the challenges of his new position. He is highly respected by his coworkers which should help ensure a smooth transition."
As Division Director, Thomas will serve as Warden of the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing. The Justice Facility is a county-owned and maintained adult detention facility that houses male and female inmates who are pre-trial, county sentenced. Inmates may also include those who are sentenced by the state and awaiting transport to state facilities or state inmates contracted to the county facility.
Thomas' nomination requires the advice and consent of the Atlantic County Board of Freeholders which will hold its next meeting on July 15, 2008.
