Levinson and McCullough Initialize New EHT Traffic Signal

County Executive Dennis Levinson and Egg Harbor Township Mayor James "Sonny" McCullough officially initialized a new traffic signal earlier today at Ocean Heights Avenue and Swift Drive in Egg Harbor Township, culminating a $960,000 intergovernmental intersection improvement project.

Egg Harbor Township served as the lead agency for the project that involved a county intersection and a municipal road, while the county and the township evenly shared the cost. Levinson noted that this is the first intersection project in which the municipality has served as the lead.

"This is another shining example of intergovernmental cooperation," stated Levinson.

The first phase of the project included improvements to Swift Drive. Swift Drive serves as the sole entrance for the Slaybaugh and Swift elementary schools and provides access to an Atlantic County library branch and several youth recreation fields.

The second phase included the widening of Ocean Heights Avenue to accommodate turning lanes of a length and width that meet state Department of Transportation standards and the installation of a traffic signal to help improve the flow of traffic and the safety of motorists in the heavily trafficked area.

"This intersection project is one of several improvement projects within the township designed to reinforce our infrastructure and help residents deal with the impacts of rapid development in our growth communities," concluded Levinson.
