Atlantic County receives $4,000 Rebate for Hybrid-Electric Vehicle Purchase

Atlantic County recently received a $4,000 rebate for the purchase of a hybrid-electric vehicle as part of the New Jersey Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) Rebate Program, announced County Executive Dennis Levinson.

The AFV Rebate Program encourages the expanded use of alternative fuel vehicles to improve air quality and reduce the reliance on imported oil. One component of the program is to provide rebates to local government entities to offset the incremental costs of acquiring alternative fuel vehicles

"This is the first AFV the county has purchased," stated Levinson, "but certainly not the last. We are now looking to replace another vehicle with a 2005 Toyota Prius. We will continue to take advantage of the rebate program."

Alternative fuel vehicles are motor vehicles that operate on substantially non-petroleum fuels, such as natural gas, propane, electricity and fuel cells. The county purchased a 2005 Ford Escape hybrid-electric vehicle that combines an electric motor with a separate gaseous or liquid fuel engine. It is currently assigned to the county's Department of Public Works.
