Free Forum To Discuss New Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

Atlantic County will host an informational forum to explain the new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that takes effect January 1, 2006. The two-hour, free forum will be held on Monday, October 3 at the Countryside Meadows Senior Housing Complex, 205 W. Buchanan Avenue, Galloway. Participants may choose to attend the morning session at 9 AM or the afternoon session at 1 PM.

As of January 1, 2006, every person on Medicare will be eligible for coverage for prescription drugs and those with limited income and resources will be able to receive extra help. To receive these benefits, subscribers will have to join designated prescription drug plans that contract with Medicare. The list of approved plans is expected to be released in October. Those who choose a plan before December 31, 2005 will have coverage beginning January 1, 2006. Otherwise they may make a selection by May 15, 2006 for coverage beginning the following year.

The forum will discuss Medicare's coverage of prescriptions as well as other options, and Social Security's extra financial help for those with limited income.

Residents who currently receive Medicare benefits or expect to in the near future are encouraged to attend. In addition, those who care for a Medicare beneficiary are also welcome. Light refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of each session.
