Levinson Directs Removal of Campaign Signs from County Roads

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson issued a directive today for the removal of all campaign signs from county roadways, intersections and right-of-ways in the interest of traffic safety.

"We have received numerous complaints from motorists about these signs," he said, "and rightly so. They are a hindrance to the motoring public."

Atlantic County Highway Safety Director Michael Schurman said that all signs along the county's 386 miles of roadway will be collected and taken to the county's public works yard on Route 9 in Northfield where they may later be retrieved.

"Our main concern is safety," confirmed Schurman. "These signs are causing sight obstructions to motorists. They are too close to the roadway and block the driver's view."

"We cannot afford to put our citizens at risk," concluded Levinson. "It is a basic safety issue that should be understandable to everyone, regardless of any political affiliation."
