Nominations Being Accepted for Donald J. Sykes Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Donald J. Sykes Award, presented each October during disABILITY Awareness Month to an outstanding Atlantic County resident who has improved our quality of life by overcoming barriers related to their personal disabilities and dispelling the myths that typically surround the disabled. The award is named in memory of Donald J. Sykes who was a long time community leader and a past chairman of the Atlantic County Disabled Citizens Advisory Board.

Nominees must be county residents who have a disability, defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act as one "that substantially limits one or more major life activities." Nominees should be exemplary individuals who have significantly contributed to their community. Individuals of all ages may be nominated.

Nomination letters should include a description of the individual's personal qualities, accomplishments and contributions, as well as the nominee's address and phone number. In addition, the person submitting the nomination should include his own name and contact information.

Nominations must be postmarked by August 23, 2004 and mailed to: Atlantic County Office of Disability Services, Attention: Kathy Quish, Shoreview Building, 101 S. Shore Road, Northfield, NJ 08225-2359.
