77 Pets Find New Homes on Clear the Shelter Day at Atlantic County Animal Shelter

Seventy-seven pets found new homes as a result of the Atlantic County Animal Shelter's free adoption day on Saturday, August 15 as part of national Clear the Shelter Day.

Approximately 200 patrons visited the shelter between 10 AM and 4 PM on Saturday to see the variety of dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, available for adoption. Shelter Manager Kathy Kelsey confirmed that 34 canines and 43 felines were successfully adopted that day.

"We are thrilled by the response from the public," stated County Executive Dennis Levinson. "This is the first time participating in this national event, but likely not the last. As you can see, people took advantage of the one-day savings and helped to contribute to our goal of finding as many good homes as possible for the animals in our care."

Regular adoption fees at the shelter range from $85 for cats and kittens to $110 for dogs and puppies. Those fees include mandatory sterilization, age appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and free veterinary consultation. Canines adopted from the shelter are also provided two free obedience classes.

"Despite the success of Clear the Shelter Day, we still have many wonderful pets for adoption, including some purebreds," said Kelsey. "We encourage the public to stop by or visit online at www.aclink.org/animalshelter."

Kelsey also noted that this Sunday, August 23, the shelter will provide its monthly free rabies clinic 9-11 AM. Cats must be brought in carriers and dogs on leashes. Vaccination records should be provided if available.
