Coastal Flood Risk Open House - February 5

County residents and property owners are invited to attend the Atlantic County Coastal Flood Risk Open House to learn more about the recently updated Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps that identify flood prone areas and help determine flood insurance rates for structures and contents.

As a result of these updates, some buildings may be included in a high-risk flood zone for the first time, and their affected property owners may now be required to purchase flood insurance.

The Open House will be held 4-8 PM on Thursday, February 5 at the Ventnor Education Community Complex, 400 North Lafayette Avenue, Ventnor.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their insurance policies and/or elevation certificates. They will be able to locate their property on the updated maps and view changes where applicable. They can also speak to local, state and FEMA officials about the maps, flood risks, and flood insurance.
(Disaster-related claims will NOT be addressed.)

Flooding is the number one natural disaster in the U.S. These maps provide the basis for flood risk education and floodplain management measures. It is vital for property owners to understand their risk and take advantage of resources available to them to help reduce flooding impacts.

Atlantic County is required to adopt these updated maps to continue participating in the National Flood Insurance Program which makes flood insurance available to the community.
