Support County Veterans Museum with Artifact Donations

In honor of Veterans Day, the Atlantic County Veterans Museum Committee is making it even easier to contribute or loan military service items for future display in the museum. The committee is providing three collection dates in November as follows:

Wednesday, Nov. 12, 11:30 AM - 3 PM, Margate Public Library, 8100 Atlantic Avenue
Thursday, Nov. 13, 1-4 PM, Atlantic County Library System/Mays Landing, 40 Farragut Avenue
Saturday, Nov. 15, 11 AM - 3 PM, All Wars Memorial Bldg., 1510 Adriatic Ave., Atlantic City.

“The response from the public with regards to this museum and our request for artifact donations has been wonderful,” remarked County Executive Dennis Levinson. “We have received several uniforms in addition to photo albums, scrapbooks, service log books, medals, ration books and more from local vets and their families. They each reveal a part of our past. Collectively, they bring history to life and serve to honor our veterans.”

Donations/loans of military items attributed to the military service of Atlantic County citizens through all conflicts and from all branches of service will be accepted. Artifacts with a direct connection to an area veteran including photographs, supporting service documentation, and/or personal accounts are of particular interest. A categorized list of articles of interest is available on the county web site at www.aclink.org/vetsmuseum. The site also includes preservation tips for specific types of artifacts.

The Veterans Museum Committee was formed by County Executive Dennis Levinson in 2013 to help develop policies and procedures for accepting donations and identify necessary renovations for the historic Daniel Estell Manor House which the county has provided to house the museum. It is located adjacent to the county park in Estell Manor. Included within the park is the county veterans cemetery, the final resting place for county veterans and their spouses.
