Feline Spay/Neuter Day - October 15

In its continuing efforts to promote the importance of spaying and neutering pets to reduce pet overpopulation, the Atlantic County Animal Shelter will hold a Feline Spay/Neuter Day on Wednesday, October 15, the second such event the shelter has held this year. The shelter has also hosted two canine spay/neuter events.

“Spaying and neutering pets is part of being a responsible pet owner,” stated Kathy Kelsey, Atlantic County Animal Shelter Manager. “We had a great response to our previous spay/neuter events so we wanted to provide it again.”

Spaying and neutering has many health benefits, noted Kelsey. It helps reduce the number of strays and unwanted animals in our communities, reduces an animal’s natural urge to roam to find a mate, get into fights with other animals as well as the tendency to bite. It also promotes a longer, healthier life for a pet by reducing the risk of breast cancer and uterine infections in females and prostate problems and testicular cancer in males.

For anyone looking to adopt a pet, the Atlantic County Animal Shelter has a variety of dogs and cats, of different ages and breeds. Adoptions from the shelter include spay and neuter procedures, vaccinations for rabies and distemper, fecal testing, de-worming, and a leash or carrier for transport. Microchips and ID tags are available for additional fees. And all adopted dogs receive two free obedience classes.
