Mosquito Ground Spray Scheduled for Northfield/Linwood on Aug. 22

The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control will perform a ground spray, weather permitting, for parts of Northfield and Linwood on Friday, August 22 between 5 and 6 AM in its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes and reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illness. No other communities are scheduled for spraying at this time.

The ground spray will take place in the following areas using Scourge, the trade name for resmethrin, applied as an ultra low volume aerosol.

NORTHFIELD - areas bounded by Mt. Vernon Avenue, Shore Road, Oak View Drive, Wabash Avenue, Tilton Road, Infield Avenue and First Avenue

LINWOOD - areas bounded by Poplar Avenue, Maple Avenue, Barr Avenue, Grammercy Avenue, Haines Avenue and Lincoln Avenue

The Environmental Protection Agency does not require people to relocate or take special precautions during mosquito control spraying. Residents may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by staying indoors during application; keeping windows shut; window fans and air conditioning off or set to circulate indoor air; keeping children’s toys indoors; keeping pets and their food, water dishes and toys indoors.

For health information about the pesticides to be applied in this area, call the Atlantic County Division of Public Health at (609) 645-5971, ext. 4277.

Mosquito Control officials remind residents of the importance of removing standing water from their properties and cleaning their gutters to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds.
