Atlantic County Celebrates Endangered Species Day, May 16

Endangered Species Day is an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species and everyday actions they can take to help protect them. Started in 2006 by the United States Congress, Endangered Species Day is a celebration of the nation’s wildlife and wild places and is designated as the third Friday in the month of May.

Atlantic County Division of Parks and Recreation will celebrate Endangered Species Day, May 16, at the Fox Nature Center from 10 AM to 12 noon, with the presentation of two speakers. Larissa Smith from the NJ Fish and Wildlife Non-game and Endangered Species program will discuss the state’s Bald Eagle Program and the stunning comeback of our national symbol, several of which have been seen visiting and nesting within our county parks.

She will be followed by South Jersey photographer, author and invasive species expert Michael Hogan who will speak and field questions about local invasive species. Participants will have an opportunity to examine conservation efforts and review protection successes.

This event is free and open to the public. To learn more, call (609) 625-8219.
