Work is set to begin as early as March 3 for the $1 million county road improvement project of a full replacement of Maple Run Bridge on Mill Road, Egg Harbor Township.
The 75-year old culvert will be removed and a precast concrete arch bridge will take its place. The new bridge will be wider to provide safe access for pedestrians and cyclists in addition to motorists. The use of precast segments will help expedite construction which is expected to be completed in 3 months. A full detour will be in place during construction and traffic on Mill Road will be diverted to Zion Road.
The Maple Run Bridge project is the first of two planned county bridge replacements, the other being the Cedar Bridge in Northfield. Work will begin on that bridge this fall with a six-month completion time frame.
Upon their completion, both bridges will serve as alternating detour routes during the county's $4 million improvements to the intersection of Fire and Mill roads in Egg Harbor Township. County officials anticipate a contract award for the intersection project this spring. The first phase of construction will involve replacing and moving utilities with minimal traffic impact and no anticipated detours.
Last March county officials held a public information session to outline the Fire and Mill intersection project and the related bridge replacement projects.
