Improvements are coming to Bears Head Road in Hamilton Township. Atlantic County is scheduled to begin a $2.6 million highway improvement project this spring on a nearly 5 mile stretch of the heavily traveled county roadway that connects Atlantic and Cumberland counties.
"The work actually includes two federally funded projects that we will award under one construction contract," stated County Executive Dennis Levinson.
Construction limits for the project are from Estelle Avenue to Pittsburgh Avenue and from Wheeling Avenue to the Avenue of the Pines, all within Hamilton Township.
In addition to resurfacing these portions of the roadway, the project will include the installation of new storm grates to conform to current standards for storm water management and bicycle compatability, installation of long life traffic stripes and raised pavement markings, as well as the repair or replacement of existing guide rail as needed.
County officials anticipate starting this project once the weather breaks and temperatures permit. The contract will call for completion in 90 calendar days from commencement.
"Once again, we ask for the public's cooperation during construction. These improvements are being made to enhance the safety of this roadway for the benefit of the traveling public," added Levinson.
