Social Media: The Good, the Bad & the Ugly - March 24

The Atlantic County Advisory Commission on Women will host its annual Forum for Change breakfast on Thursday, March 24. New Jersey State Attorney General Paula Dow and a panel of experts will discuss security and privacy issues in the use and management of social media. The event will be held from 8 AM to 10 AM at the Linwood Country Club, 500 Shore Road, Linwood.

Women are the fastest growing segment of the population to use social media, according to BusinessWeek magazine. But unfortunately more than one million women a year are cyber-stalked.

“While the use of social media has enhanced our lives, it may also impose certain hazards,” stated County Executive Dennis Levinson. “It is important to learn how to protect ourselves from those who may use this technology to victimize others. The knowledgeable panel assembled by the ACACW will provide case examples and information to educate the public and increase our awareness.”

Panelists joining Dow will include: Officer Darren Aberman from the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office Information Technology Unit; Sarah Beth Johnson, an attorney with Fox Rothschild, LLP with expertise in the benefits and pitfalls of social media’s use in the workplace; James Taggart, chair of Information Systems and Aviation Studies at Atlantic Cape Community College; and Jason Worchel, intelligence analyst and branch chief of the Academic Process at the Federal Air Marshal Training Center in Atlantic City.

Cost to attend the breakfast is $20. RSVP can be made by calling Christine Zeltman at 609-343-2375 or via email to zeltman_christine@aclink.org.
