Operation 10th Avenue
Atlantic County Sheriff’s Officers and Longport Police arrested 71 people wanted on warrants during raids conducted throughout every municipality in Atlantic County during a three day period ending Wednesday, November 25, 2009.
On Tuesday, November 24, 2009 during a 12 hour period of the operation 50 people were arrested on outstanding warrants.
Seven criminal fugitives were netted in the operation including one wanted in Pennsylvania on a probation violation for assault and one sought by New York authorities for violating his parole from robbery charges. Twelve people were also arrested for failure to pay child support.
Operation 10th Avenue was a joint warrant operation, the result of a three week investigation involving the collaborative efforts of all units of the Sheriff’s Office and with the assistance of the Longport Police Department and the Atlantic County Jail and the Atlantic City Police Department.
Three thousand, five hundred twenty-one dollars bail was collected by the Longport and other Municipal Courts, additional warrants were cleared during the investigation when 19 people wanted by the Longport Municipal Court were found to be deceased, deported, or incarcerated in State or Federal prisons. One hundred twenty-six municipal warrants were cleared by arrest.
Sixty-four people were lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The warrant raids will continue, and persons wanted on warrants or owing fines to municipal courts in Atlantic County are advised by Sheriff Balles to make their payments or face arrest on the street, at their home or place of employment and possible confinement in the county jail.
“This is the second of many planned Municipal Warrant Operations that will be executed each year ” he added, “We plan to continue to partner with every municipal police department in Atlantic County in a concerted effort to actively reduce the backlog of municipal warrants throughout our county ” Balles said.
