Atlantic County Environmental Conference Promotes Awareness and Green Living
Concerned about global warming and urban sprawl? Interested in maintaining clean water and healthy air quality? Curious about how to live a green lifestyle or build a green home? These topics and more will be discussed during the upcoming Atlantic County Environmental Conference to be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007, 8 AM - 4 PM, at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
The event is open to the public and will feature panel discussions, exhibits, and refreshments. Speakers include Congressman Frank LoBiondo, State Senator James "Sonny" McCullough, County Executive Dennis Levinson and award winning environmental reporter and former CBS Radio correspondent Betsy Rosenberg among many others.
Participants may choose to attend discussions on emerging energy trends, impacts of growth and development on our quality of life, alternate energy sources such as wind, solar and geothermal, eco-tourism opportunities and challenges, and best practices in green architectural design and building management. An additional presentation on America’s energy future will be offered during the lunch break as well as exhibits and demonstrations. Local photographer Michael Hogan will display a selection of fine art nature photographs.
"We invite the public to learn more about Atlantic County’s environmental future," stated Levinson. "We are currently the greenest county in the state, home to the only wind farm in New Jersey and a leader in sustainable energy. This conference is an ideal way to exchange information and discuss emerging trends and concepts with experts in their fields."
According to Levinson the conference should appeal to teachers, students, environmentalists, architects, planning consultants, commercial and recreational fishermen, elected officials and concerned citizens.
Those who register by August 31 will receive an early registration discount. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast (8-9 AM), a box lunch and a post-event sparkling cider and cheese reception. Students with valid ID will also receive a discount. Registration is available online at www.acenvironmental.org or by calling (609) 343-2162 to receive more information.
Conference sponsors include Atlantic County Government, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey as well as corporate sponsors Atlantic City Electric, South Jersey Gas and Harrah’s Entertainment.
