Atlantic County and Town of Hammonton Agree to Coordinate Central Avenue Improvements

Atlantic County and the Town of Hammonton have agreed to a $1.98 million interlocal agreement for the survey, design, engineering, inspection and construction management costs associated with the resurfacing of Central Avenue in Hammonton, between Route 30 and Route 54. As a result of this agreement, the county will pay Hammonton for engineering services.

"Since the town needed to upgrade the utility lines and the county wanted to resurface the roadway, it was agreed that it would be in the best economical interests of both parties to combine the engineering services," explained County Executive Dennis Levinson.

The funds will allow the town to bid and administer the contract for the county's resurfacing project.
"Interlocal agreements allow the county to expand the number of road improvement projects it tackles, by saving time and money," added Levinson. "Many municipalities prefer to do the work themselves as long as the county can come up with the funding, as is the case with this project."
